Step by Step

I just took the foundations of reading mtel not to long ago and I noticed many topics that were similar to what can be found in this specific chapter. I was always interested in the steps it took to complete a lesson and for signs to look for indicating which stage developmentally a student is at. On page eighty eight in chapter six, the author lists some skills that teachers should look for while students are reading. The chapter provides navigation skills, comprehension strategies’, strategic behavior and comprehension skills. I was especially intrigued by the strategic behaviors teachers should look for in their students. I noticed that it was mentioned here that students should be asking questions before, during and after reading but not in the other charts found at the beginning of the chapter. I noted this in my chapter summary as well because I was confused as to why it was missing at the beginning. I had always considered this one of the most important steps while reading a book. All of the other strategies I was not surprised at.

I had never heard of webnotes before reading this chapter. It mentions the use of sticky notes and I know that I personally always used sticky notes and still use them to mark up my books today. I had assumed this is what they meant by webnotes but I was soon proven otherwise. I liked how the notes were organized and provided the student with easy access to the website they were using. Because the webnotes are so easy to use the children can concentrate more on what they are reading or what their assignment is instead of stressing over how to use the webnotes and where there notes are after exiting the site. It also provides a highlighter tool to help students make note of the more important phrases in the text. It seems like an all-around helpful tool.
