Types of Learners

Different Types of
Learners
Every
student learns differently and there is no one correct way of learning. This
concept has been expressed to me constantly through the education courses I
have taken so far. I was reminded of this as I was reading the beginning of
chapter four. This chapter discussed the importance of creating lessons that
respond to a child’s expressive and receptive modes. Being able to create a
lesson that a child can not only listen to but read and view is essential. I decided
to write about this topic because I didn’t know that having a lesson that simultaneously
uses these three senses. Having this knowledge will greatly benefit me when I have
my own classroom because I will try and plan my lessons around the needs of my
students. After learning this, reading about the use of multimedia to help with
learning new words was very interesting. Letting students watch videos, play
games, interact with stories, the possibilities are truly endless. Students in
today’s world have many more resources that will greatly benefit the furthering
of their education. I especially love the idea of the interactive story and
have seen them being used by students. Students have the chance to not only
read and look at the pictures but get a deeper understanding of each word and
what they mean.
I loved
the section in the chapter where the author explains how important the use of
independent reading is. There is only so much a child can experience in their
own lives. Reading can help transport them to other worlds and broaden their
knowledge. Reading independently also helps increase their vocabulary knowledge
and put ideas to words. The students will be so invested into theirs books and
enjoying themselves so much that they won’t even realize they are educating
themselves. Students can also blog about their responses to what they have read
and get comments from people all around the world. All of the chapters we have
read so far all come back and relate to one another.
Every child learns different, this I think is expressed in almost every class where children are involved, and really anywhere people. People are all different, they all learn different, experience different things, different things effect people differently. There are so many variations of that one phase, because it is so important to remember! Todays children have so many different opportunities to learn in new and different way, and to express their skills that have gained, it truly is amazing what a teacher can do. When working with my students I find I know the ones I can joke with, teach, be more stern towards, the ones who need the sternness but resent it. its important when working with children to learn their personalities and who to reach out to them.
ReplyDeleteYes, I definitely agree with this post! It is so important to come up with a lesson plan that caters to each child's needs in the classroom. While reading this chapter I reflected my own learning skills and thought about how I am more of a visual learner and communicative. I was also surprised to read about the three senses to consider while planning a lesson plan, I found this to be very interesting and informative!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what chapter you are on... should be 8, so I assume that's it. But you mention chapter 4, the entry I don't see.
